Rainbow Club

How did Paragon Swim Centre become involved with Rainbow Club?
Our story is below:-

During the 2006 ASCTA Conference held in Queensland, our expectation was to gain new ideas and skills which would enable us to make changes and improvements to our centre.

This was achieved but what wasn't expected was hearing from Debbie Gill (Geelong Aquatic Centre) about the thriving work and effort of Rainbow Club Australia, a club which caters to the requirements of children with special needs.  This club was unknown to South Australia and we knew straight away that the Paragon Swim Centre needed to be involved.

On the 27th May 2006, Tracy (Manager/Owner) and Tiffany (Assistant Manager) made an appointment to see Debbie Gill and Geelong’s Rainbow Club in action. This was only a day trip and it allowed us to see what was exactly  involved in running a club here in South Australia.

After a lot of emailing and phone calls to Sue Green it was decided that on Saturday the 29th July 2006, Paragon Swim Centre would open its doors to the first Rainbow Club in South Australia -  The Modbury Rainbow Club!  Tracy had decided to donate pool space and equipment, it was the least we could do for these special children.

On Saturday 29th July 2006 the Paragon Swim Centre was lit up by the cries of excitement and children bouncing with joy.  It was a day we will never   forget.  As the weeks passed by we have watched these children grow in  confidence and develop their understanding of water safety.  Watching and working with these children has been an enormous and humbling experience.  We are rewarded each week by the smiles we receive and the gaining of knowledge and skills that our students attain, this has only made our commitment to this cause even stronger than before and we look forward to continuing our work with Modbury Rainbow Club Inc.

And on another Happy Note Paragon Swim Centre received from Swim Australia in May 2007 the Award for Outstanding Community Service.
